Everyone has faced sleepiness while at work. Or there are people who feel like sleeping after doing little labor. This is in actual a serious problem. Excessive sleepiness is actually not normal. It is completely different from being lazy. But this is a problem to worry less about. With innumerable smart drugs in the market, this has become a minute problem to worry about. One key ingredient to cure the “being sleepy” symptom is the Modafinil drug.

Modafinil pill is actually a smart pill used to cure narcolepsy which is a sleep disorder marked by excessive sleepiness, hallucination, sleep paralysis etc. It is also used to cure sleep apnea-a sleep order where breathing repeatedly stops and starts. This might be prone to people who has the habit of snoring. It also cures shift work sleep disorder.

It is a smart drug: Like the word smart suggests, it doesn’t make you smart but it helps in making you smart. Smart pills are stimulants that enhance the brain to work more. One example of it is caffeine. Researchers have shown that Modafinil helps in improving memory, problem solving skills and mental strength. In short this smart drug actually helps in making the capacity of the brain to work and think more.

·         It is not narcotic: Although workaholics can turn addictive towards the Modafinil pill, it does not mean that the pill has anything kind of addictive nature. The Modafinil pill has been approved as a smart pill by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the year 1988.In fact, it can help in curing addiction.

·         It is easily available over the counter: The Modafinil pill is available in the pharmacies. The pill is classified as a schedule IV controlled substance in the US due to concerns about possible addiction potential by drug abusers. Some pharmacies however don’t sell in without prescription.

·         It has very few side effects: The Modafinil pill is said to have very less to no side effects. It may cause the allergic reaction like rashes, swelling lips or tongue etc for some. It can also lead to breathing problems, chest pain and heart beat going fast. The most important is that it might cause insomnia, blurred vision or dizziness.

·         It lowers the level of fatigue: In adults it stimulates the brain to work more, thus, lowering the level of fatigue. It helps in improving lazy mood and raises the motivation level.

Dosage: 

Modafinil drug is a 200mg tablet. The usual dosage in adults is 200mg a day. This can be taken once daily with a glass of water or divided into two of 100mg each and can be taken two times a day.

Based on your necessity, your doctor might prescribe you for more. For elderly people above the age of 65, the usual dosage is 100mg a day. This can be taken once daily along with a glass of water or divided into two of 50mg and can be taken twice a day.

If you miss your dosage take the next pill in the usual time. Do not try to make time for the previous one. This might lead to drug overdose.

Precaution: 

Do let your doctor know if you are already taking any kind of medications. Medicine interactions can be harmful.

Do not take medicine along with alcohol or alcoholic products.
